The first thing my statistics professor told our class was "statistics can be used to prove or disprove anything". I'm sure you've heard 9 out of 10 doctors or dentists approve xyz...there is no way of knowing how many groups of 10 they interviewed before they found 9 out of 10 or how they came to the 9 out of 10. Did they interview many, find 9 and put them all together? So you can see, statistics can be tailored in any way desired.
But this is way worse....
Recently published by Natural News, it is reported that Merck Drug Company used in house authors and passed them off as independent scientist when reporting on numerous drugs. The implications are wide ranging, as the FDA refers to independent studies when reviewing the safety and efficacy of a drug prior to approving it.
